Words of wisdom and caution on using web-sourced images (from Steven Kite, 2005/02/03)
"Finally a few important words of caution.
Assume that any class ppt (powerpoint) files or html files that you post will be discovered and indexed by a search engine. No matter how discrete your posting, any image you put up on the Internet is almost certain to show up in other's search engine output. Take care to include good reference information and proper attribution WHILE YOU COPY EACH IMAGE and import them into your presentations. This consideration not only covers legal issues and good manners, it also demonstrates to students the importance of citation of sources. I have tried to follow protocol and decorum in assembling my class presentations; however, a brief lapse in the heat of putting together a set of slides for an imminent lecture can lead to some embarrassing apologies later."
