Financial Aid

Most of our students receive some financial assistance such as teaching assistantships, research assistantships, trainee-ships or part-time professional employment with the department.

Undergraduate Scholarships

The Department of Geosciences awards several scholarships every year, some based on need and some on achievement. Please click here for more information.

Financial Aid for Graduate Students

Assistantships and Fellowships are awarded by departments with a total value of $7,200 to $12,000 (including a stipend and a waiver of fees). In addition, non-resident tuition is waived for any non-resident student who receives an assistantship or fellowship award. You may download Graduate Assistantship Application Form in pdf format, from the Graduate College, MG-140, or the department in which you are applying.

The Gem Scholarship provides a nonresident tuition waiver to students who are enrolled full-time and pursuing a major at Boise State University designated as high tech. Only new students who are not residents of the state of Idaho are eligible. To be eligible, you must have a minimum 3.00 cumulative GPA in your undergraduate course work and a combined score of 1000 or greater on the verbal and quantitative sections of the GRE or a score of 500 or greater on the GMAT. You must also have been accepted by the department with either provisional or regular status into their program.

Other financial aid requires submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Contact the Financial Aid Office at 208-426-1664 for availability of forms and deadlines.
